Hi. Wanted to follow up on my initial post as I imagine that people might find it at a later time looking for the same answers. The good news is there are a number of ways to get from Chelmsford to Southend (and Westcliff) High School for Boys - so does open more options for those with children who are keen on these schools either over KEGS or if they miss the score for KEGS.

There are three school busses:

SBC Coaches (Route A) - www.sbcleisure.com/southend-school-bus-services/
Stephensons (513 service) - www.csse.org.uk/transport
Both First Bus (625 service) - www.csse.org.uk/transport

We went for SBC as the timings and location was best for us, but between the three you will find a good one.

There is one regular bus:

Airlink X30 (and it appears the X10 route sometimes too) - www.firstbus.co.uk/essex/airlink/x30-so ... ed-airport

This is much cheaper - currently £2 a journey - but we decided against it as it isn't door to door, the timings aren't quite right (but could be made to work), has the issue of 'what if the bus is full' and we thought better to be on a bus with other schoolchildren. But it is an option.

Driving:

On the days I drive my son, the traffic can be bad getting there but getting back is generally pretty quick. There are a number of co-working spaces in Southend near the school and the David Lloyd has a great co-working space, and gym facilities too. So if you WFH then it's also an option.

Train:

Would be far too complicated from Chelmsford (but easy from Shenfield).
